Students march for Diabetes advocacy
This was my first published video. It took a lot of effort to get here. At the beginning of journalism, I overloaded on work, and started to fall behind on video. Not only that, but my first (unpublished) video had many technical difficulties surrounding it. After my schedule cleared up, however, I reattempted video, and I'm so glad I did! Learning to work the camera was great, and I was really excited to try a new medium of journalism. The experience taught me to be resilient and to persevere through hardships.
San Carlos hosts Night of Holiday Lights
This video was difficult because of the lighting issues. The event took place during nighttime, so I had to adjust my camera to dark lighting, which often led to blurry or hard to decipher video. However, I got to experience interviewing strangers on the street without warning, like a professional broadcaster. I also had a lot of fun giving the video Christmas ambience by incorporating music and different types and angles of video. This also solidified my position on Scot Center because they needed more local newscasters.
Basketball season continues as Omicron cases rise
This video had many technical difficulties because I used a faulty battery unknowingly. I had to pull interviews and b-roll footage last minute. This resulted in me questioning my producing skills once again. However, through my struggle, I got to experiment with new angles and a new environment with lots of background noise. I managed to pull the video together, proving to myself that video was a good path for me. It was a good mixture of novel, challenging, and fun. Plus, the edited end product was always exciting to see.
Winter or summer, climate change affects the Bay Area
This was my first opinion video and my second opinionated piece in my time with the journalism program. I wanted to branch out with video and experience new forms of the medium. This piece was difficult because my self-filmed footage wasn't always relevant. For this reason, my editor introduced me to stock footage. I also filled space with animation as a way of presenting data. I enjoyed exploring this form of multimedia.

Women's soccer league enters equal pay deal
In this video, I focused on research and storytelling more than filming. Since I couldn't get video of soccer that related to Carlmont or the league spoken about in the video, I used stock footage and put my editing skills to the test. However, this footage was still difficult because much of it didn't relate to the more technical information in my voiceover. In the end, I think the research and information presented in this video really pulled it together.
Abortion legislation changes around the world
This video was an interesting experience for me. It turned out that another segment producer had wanted to cover the protest, and we couldn't have the same story on our publication twice. When listening to the march, I decided to take a more worldwide angle on the topic of abortion, rather than focusing on just the march, in order to make our stories different. It was a test in my ability to discover new and intriguing angles. I also got to use some of the skills from my Spanish class, which was an exciting occurrence that showed me the importance of second languages.
